Abstract
Examples are disclosed for a wireless device handoff between a first wireless network and a second wireless network.
Claims20
A method implemented at a first wireless network to handoff a mobile wireless device to a second wireless network, the method comprising:
- receiving coverage information associated with the wireless device, wherein the coverage information includes a physical location of the wireless device;
- determining whether the wireless device is capable of being covered by the second wireless network based, at least in part, on the received coverage information, wherein the determining includes determining that the wireless device is not currently covered by the second wireless network;
- and
- transmitting a handoff request to the second wireless network based, at least in part, on the determination that the wireless device is capable of being covered by the second wireless network.
A method to generate a coverage map to indicate possible coverage areas for wireless networks, the method comprising:
- receiving coverage information from a wireless device, wherein the coverage information includes a physical location of the wireless device and an indication of whether the wireless device detects one or more wireless networks;
- generating the coverage map based on the received coverage information, wherein the coverage map indicates whether the one or more wireless networks are able to cover the physical location of the wireless device.
An apparatus for a first wireless network to handoff a mobile wireless device to a second wireless network, the apparatus comprising:
- a coverage manager including logic configured to:
- receive coverage information associated with the wireless device, wherein the coverage information includes a physical location of the wireless device,
- determine whether the wireless device is capable of being covered by the second wireless network based, at least in part, on the coverage information, wherein the logic is further configured to determine that the wireless device is not currently covered by the second wireless network but is capable of being covered by the second wireless network, and
- transmit a handoff request to the second wireless network based, at least in part, on the determination that the wireless device is capable of being covered by the second wireless network.
An apparatus to generate a coverage map to indicate possible coverage areas for wireless networks, the apparatus comprising:
- a coverage manager including logic, the logic configured to:
- receive coverage information from a wireless device, wherein the coverage information includes a physical location of the wireless device and an indication of whether the wireless device detects one or more wireless networks, and
- the coverage map based on the received coverage information, wherein the coverage map indicates whether the one or more wireless networks are capable to cover the physical location of the wireless device.
