An apparatus comprising:
- a substrate;
- a plurality of first image sensels supported by the substrate and arranged in rows and columns, wherein the substrate comprises one or more apertures, and
- a second plurality of second image sensels configured as an image sensor for a plenoptic camera, wherein the one or more apertures in the substrate are configured as plenoptic camera apertures.

A method comprising:
- simultaneously capturing, from the same perspective at the same time, a first image with a single aperture camera and a second image with a multi-aperture plenoptic camera, and
- using apertures through an image sensor of the single aperture camera to provide multiple apertures for the multi-aperture plenoptic camera.
