Abstract
A battery module includes a battery management system disposed in a housing of the battery module. The battery management system is configured to monitor an operational parameter of the battery module. The battery management system is electrically coupled to a positive terminal and a negative terminal of the battery module. The battery module also includes a connector disposed in an outer surface of the housing. The connector includes a plurality of electrical contacts and is electrically coupled to the battery management system.
Claims30
A battery module, comprising:
- a housing;
- a plurality of battery cells disposed in the housing;
- a battery management system disposed in the housing and configured to monitor one or more operational parameters of the battery module, wherein the battery management system is electrically coupled to a positive terminal and a negative terminal of the battery module;
- and
- a connector disposed in an outer surface of the housing, wherein the connector comprises a plurality of electrical contacts, and wherein the connector is electrically coupled to the battery management system.
A battery module, comprising:
- a housing;
- a plurality of battery cells disposed in the housing;
- a battery management system disposed in the housing and electrically coupled to a positive terminal and a negative terminal of the battery module, wherein the battery management system comprises:
- a thermocouple configured to generate a signal related to a temperature of the battery module;
- a voltmeter configured to generate a signal related to a voltage of the battery module;
- a processor configured to determine one or more operational parameters of the battery module based at least in part upon the signal from the thermocouple and the signal from the voltmeter;
- and
- a memory configured to store operational parameter history information, usage information, or a combination thereof;
- and
- a connector disposed in an outer surface of the housing, wherein the connector is electrically coupled to the battery management system, and wherein the connector is configured for power input, power output, data input, and data output.
A method, comprising:
- receiving charging power through two pins of a multi-pin connector, wherein the multi-pin connector is disposed in an outer surface of a housing of a battery module;
- transmitting the charging power from the multi-pin connector through a battery management system disposed in the housing and to a positive terminal and a negative terminal of the battery module, wherein the battery management system is electrically coupled to the positive and negative terminals;
- and
- charging a plurality of battery cells disposed in the housing via the charging power provided to the positive and negative terminals.
