Abstract
A composite material includes a plurality of fibers embedded in a metal matrix. The composite material further includes a plurality of particles disposed in the metal matrix. At least 25% of the fibers contact or are spaced less than 0.2 micrometers from an adjacent fiber within the metal matrix.
Claims22
A composite material comprising:
- a plurality of fibers embedded in a metal matrix;

A composite wire comprising:
- a plurality of substantially continuous fibers embedded in a metal matrix, the plurality of substantially continuous fibers and metal matrix forming a substantially continuous composite wire;
- and
- a plurality of particles disposed in the metal matrix;
- wherein the plurality of particles are present at less than 0.1 wt. % based upon the total dry fiber weight of the substantially continuous fibers;
- and
- wherein the plurality of particles have a mean diameter of no greater than 100 nanometers.
