Abstract

In one embodiment, a method includes obtaining a link to a video program; obtaining metadata that relates to the program and that defines, for a specified time point in the program, annotations to be invoked at the specified time point; wherein the annotations comprise: a graphic image; one or more filters, each of the filters comprising a key and one or more matching values; and optionally a reference to a video segment, an electronic document, program code statements, or a programmatic call; during playing the video, detecting that the video program is playing at the specified time point; in response to the detecting: for each particular annotation for the specified time point, retrieving a current value for the key, and causing to display the graphic image associated with that particular annotation only when the current value of the key matches one of the matching values of one of the filters.

Dependent claims

A data processing method comprising:

at a computer, obtaining a link to a stored video program and obtaining metadata that relates to the video program and that defines, for a specified time point in the video program, one or more cue points or annotations to be processed at the specified time point;
wherein one or more of the cue points or annotations identifies an executable action;
causing the computer to play the video program from the link;
during playing the video program on a computer, detecting that the video program is playing at the specified time point;
in response to the detecting:
for a first particular cue point associated with the specified time point, invoking the executable action;
wherein the method is performed using one or more computing devices.

at a computer, obtaining a link to a stored video program and obtaining metadata that relates to the video program and that defines a first audiovisual experience;
wherein the first audiovisual experience comprises a reference to the video program, one or more annotations that are associated with actions, one or more cue points each associated with a specified time point in the video program, one or more graphic images, and structural data indicating dimensions and screen locations of a video region in which the video program is to be displayed, regions representing the annotations, and the graphic images;
automatically copying the metadata into a shadow data set that includes the structural data but omits all of:
the reference to the video program;
the annotations;
the cue points;
the graphic images;
causing displaying, on a computer display unit, a first representation of the shadow data set in which the structural data is represented as a plurality of rectangles that represent the dimensions and screen locations of the video region and the regions representing the annotations;
receiving input data representing one or more selections of new graphic images and new media assets in association with selections of specified particular rectangles among the plurality of rectangles;
creating and storing a second audiovisual experience by updating the shadow data set to include new references to the new graphic images and the new media assets;
wherein the method is performed using one or more computing devices.
