Opto-Electrical Transceiver Module and Active Optical Cable

An active optical cable having a terminal end provided with an opto-electrical transceiver module, the opto-electrical transceiver module comprising:

• a first printed circuit board carrying:
• at least one light source with driver circuitry configured to convert incoming electrical signals to optical signals,
• at least one optical receiver component with amplifier circuitry configured to convert optical signals to electrical signals,
• a single optical coupling unit configured to optically couple waveguides of an optical cable to the at least one light source as well as to the at least one optical receiver component;
• and
• at least one first electrical contact configured to connect to a host device;
• and
• a second printed circuit board having at least one second electrical contact configured to connect to the host device,
• wherein at least a part of the at least one second electrical contact on the second printed circuit board is connected the driver circuitry or the amplifier circuitry on the first printed circuit board.
