Abstract
A broadband diagnostics system provides the capability to collect, store and recall historical data for the purpose of comparing to current and existing network elements and conditions. The system allows testing, troubleshooting, tracking, identifying and logging information pertaining to cable, xDSL, FTTx and other networks, and their associated elements. The system also provides identification and testing of network elements deployed at various customer premises, behind a demarcation device.
Claims16
A broadband diagnostics device comprising:
- a communication device in communication with a demarcation device;
- a storage or memory device that stores diagnostic information received from the demarcation device via the communication device;
- and
- one or more processors that identify a subset of the diagnostic information consisting of channel information for the demarcation device, and transmit the subset of diagnostic information periodically at one or more predefined periods;
- wherein the demarcation device is at a customer premises.
A non-transitory storage medium storing instructions that, when executed, cause the one or more processors to:
- receive diagnostic information from a demarcation device;
- store the diagnostic information on a storage or memory device;
- identify a subset of diagnostic information from the diagnostic information;
- and
- periodically transmit the subset of diagnostic information to one or more client devices via one or more communication devices at one or more predefined periods of time.
The non-transitory storage medium of claim 8, wherein the one or more predefined periods of time are defined by a refresh rate received from the one or more client devices.
The non-transitory storage medium of claim 8, wherein the one or more predefined periods of time are received from the one or more client devices.
A diagnostic method implemented by a broadband diagnostics system comprising:
- receiving diagnostic information from a demarcation device via a communication device;
- identifying a subset of the diagnostic information from the diagnostic information;
- transmitting the subset of diagnostic information to one or more client devices at a periodic rate;
- and
- presenting the subset of diagnostic information on a display device, wherein the subset of diagnostic information presented on the display device is refreshed at the periodic rate.
The method of claim 15, wherein the subset of diagnostic information comprises channel information.
The method of claim 15, wherein the subset of diagnostic information is presented along with reference diagnostic information on the display device.
