A method for controlling an information processing apparatus, the method comprising:

• receiving a shift instruction to shift a power state of the information processing apparatus from a first power state to a second power state;
• in which power consumption is lower than the first power state or power is not supplied to the information processing apparatus;
• performing a control to shift the information processing apparatus to a power saving state in a case where a predetermined application is not running when the information processing apparatus receives the shift instruction,
• performing a control to shut down the information processing apparatus in a case where the predetermined application is running when the image processing apparatus receives the shift instruction;
• and
• performing control to shift a state of the information processing apparatus from the power saving state to the first power state using information stored in a storage unit, the information being stored in accordance with an execution of a shifting process of the information processing apparatus from the first power state to the power saving state.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium configured to store a program for causing a computer to execute a method for controlling an information processing apparatus, the method comprising:

• receiving a shift instruction to shift a power state of the information processing apparatus from a first power state to a second power state in which power consumption is lower than the first power state or power is not supplied to the information processing apparatus;
• performing a control to shift the information processing apparatus to a power saving state in a case where a predetermined application is not running when the information processing apparatus receives the shift instruction,
• performing a control to shut down the information processing apparatus in a case where the predetermined application is running when the image processing apparatus receives the shift instruction;
• and
• performing control to shift a state of the information processing apparatus from the power saving state to the first power state using information stored in a storage unit, the information being stored in accordance with an execution of a shifting process of the information processing apparatus from the first power state to the power saving state.
