Abstract
In a closed-loop wireless communication system, a codebook-based feedback control mechanism is provided where feedback from each of a plurality of receivers is scheduled to control the feedback so that the receiving devices do not needlessly feed back precoding information to the transmitting device. The feedback may be controlled by establishing and distributing a schedule to control when each receiver feeds back precoding information, or by establishing and distributing a metric-based feedback threshold that must be satisfied before feedback is permitted.
Claims20
A base station, comprising:
- a plurality of antennas configured to communicate with a plurality of receiving devices of a MIMO communication system, wherein the plurality of antennas communicates with each receiving device over a respective transmission channel;
- a processor coupled to the plurality of antennas, the processor configured to cause the base station to:
- generate feedback control information for each receiving device;
- broadcast, via the plurality of antennas, the feedback control information to the plurality of receiving devices;
- receive, via the plurality of antennas, one or more feedback from one or more of the plurality of receiving devices, where the feedback control information is evaluated by each receiving device to determine a feedback constraint, where the feedback constraint is a threshold value used to determine when a receiving device of the plurality of receiving devices provides feedback to the base station, wherein each receiving device evaluation includes tracking a scheduling history for that receiving device;
- wherein the one or more feedback comprises precoding information;
- and
- wherein the feedback control information is configured to reduce the frequency of receiving the one or more feedback.
A base station, comprising:
- a plurality of antennas configured to communicate with at least one receiving device of a MIMO communication system, wherein the plurality of antennas communicates with each of the at least one receiving device over a respective transmission channel;
- a processor coupled to the plurality of antennas, the processor configured to cause the base station to:
- broadcast, via the plurality of antennas, feedback control information to each of the at least one user equipment device, the feedback control information enabling evaluation at each of the at least one user equipment device, wherein the evaluation includes tracking a scheduling history for the at least one user equipment device;
- receive, via the plurality of antennas, feedback meeting a set of evaluative criteria from each of the at least one user equipment devices;
- wherein the feedback comprises precoding information;
- and
- wherein the feedback control information is configured to reduce the frequency of the feedback transmitted to the base station from each of the at least one user equipment devices.
A user equipment device, comprising:
- a plurality of antennas configured to communicate with a base station of a MIMO communication system;
- a processor coupled to the plurality of antennas, the processor configured to cause the user equipment device to:
- receive, via at least one antenna of the plurality of antennas, feedback control information from the base station;
- track a scheduling history for the first user equipment device to determine if the first user equipment device has been frequently scheduled;
- and
- feed back precoding information, via at least one antenna of the plurality of antennas, to the base station in response to a determination that the first user equipment device has not been frequently scheduled, wherein the precoding information is not fed back in response to a determination that the first user equipment device has been frequently scheduled.
