Abstract
Described is a core-shell nanoparticle comprising a lithium sulfide nanoparticle core and a shell covering the lithium sulfide nanoparticle core, the shell comprising at least one of carbon, polyanaline or a transition metal sulfide. The core-shell nanoparticle may be used for a positive electrode in a lithium/sulfur battery cell.
Claims20
A core-shell nanoparticle comprising:
- a lithium sulfide nanoparticle core;
- and
- a shell covering the lithium sulfide nanoparticle core, the shell comprising at least one of carbon, polyaniline or a transition metal sulfide.
A battery cell comprising:
- a positive electrode comprising a plurality of core-shell nanoparticles comprising lithium sulfide cores coated by shells that conduct electrons and lithium ions;
- a negative electrode;
- and
- an electrolyte separating the negative electrode from the positive electrode.
1 more element
A method of synthesizing a plurality of core-shell nanoparticles comprising:
- providing a plurality of lithium sulfide nanoparticles;
- and
- forming shells around the plurality of lithium sulfide nanoparticles, wherein the shells conduct electrons and lithium ions.
