Platform and Method for Analyzing the Performance of Message Oriented Middleware

A computer server platform application for analyzing a capability of a message oriented transaction system comprising:

• a performance driver utility configured to display input windows for receiving data from a user defining at least a number of transactions to be run for a test, a queue manager program, a request queue destination, a reply queue destination;
• wherein the performance driver utility creates and sends the transactions including a correlation identification for each transaction through the queue manager program;
• a backend utility for acquiring the transactions sent by the performance driver utility using the queue manager program at the request queue destination;
• wherein the backend utility copies the correlation identification to a reply message for each transaction and converts a payload size of each transaction into bytes and copies the bytes to the reply message corresponding to each transaction;
• wherein the backend utility further sends the reply message to the reply queue destination;
• wherein the performance driver utility reads each reply message from the reply queue destination;
• wherein the computer server platform application calculates and stores in a non-transitory computer readable media a completion time for each transaction, wherein each completion time starts when the performance driver utility sends a transaction and ends when the performance driver utility receives the reply message with a matching correlation identification;
• wherein the computer server platform application further includes a first server having computer-executable instructions embodied therein defining the performance driver utility;
• wherein the computer server platform application further includes computer-executable instructions embodied in the first server defining the backend utility;
• wherein the computer server platform application further includes computer-executable instructions embodied in the first server defining a graphing utility for displaying the completion time for each transaction and an average number of transactions per unit of time for a total number of transactions tested;
• wherein the computer server platform application includes computer-executable instructions embodied in the first server for displaying categories of possible transaction delays based on where in a sequence of the total number of transactions tested the delays occur, the computer server platform application further displaying potential resolutions for each of the categories.

A computer-implemented method for analyzing a capability of a message oriented transaction system, the method comprising:

• sending, by a performance driver utility of a first server, a plurality of transactions through a queue manager as messages having at least a payload and a correlation identification;
• calculating and recording, by the performance driver utility, in a non-transitory computer readable media, a completion time for each transaction sent, wherein each completion time starts when the performance driver utility sends a transaction and ends when the performance driver utility receives a reply message with a matching correlation identification at a reply queue destination;
• receiving, by a backend utility of the first server, each transaction sent, convert each payload into the reply message, include the matching correlation identification in the reply message, and send the reply message to the reply queue destination;
• displaying, by a graphing utility of the first server, the completion time for each transaction and an average number of transactions per unit of time for a total number of transactions tested;
• causing to be displayed, to a user, categories of possible transaction delays, based on where in a sequence of the total number of transactions tested the delays occur, and potential resolutions for each of the categories.
