Medical image based collaboration

A technical system for medical image based collaboration, the system comprising:

• a non-transitory computer readable medium configured to store executable programmed modules;
• a processor communicatively coupled with the non-transitory computer readable medium configured to execute programmed modules stored therein;
• a command module stored in the non-transitory computer readable medium and configured to be executed by the processor, the command module configured to interface with a requesting system and provide information and instructions to the requesting system and receive information and requests from the requesting system, the command module further configured to interface with a consulting system and provide information and instructions to the consulting system and receive information and requests from the consulting system;
• a case module stored in the non-transitory computer readable medium and configured to be executed by the processor, the case module configured to create, update and store medical image based cases comprising medical image based case information in the non-transitory computer readable medium and determine a minimum data set required to complete a medical image based case;
• an image viewing module stored in the non-transitory computer readable medium and configured to be executed by the processor, the image viewing module configured to interface with the consulting system and provide medical image based case information to the consulting system;
• wherein the command module is further configured to receive first medical image based case information associated with a first case and comprising digital medical image data and metadata from the requesting system, the case module is further configured to store the first medical image based case information in the non-transitory computer readable medium in association with the first case and analyze the stored medical image based case information to determine that the first case is complete.

A computer implemented method for medical image based collaboration, where one or more processors are programmed to perform steps comprising:

• receiving a request to create a medical image based case from a requesting system;
• parsing the request to obtain identification information for the medical image based case;
• creating the medical image based case and assigning a case number to the medical image based case, said case number comprising at least a portion of the identification information;
• sending medical image based case information comprising the case number to the requesting system;
• using the identification information to identify a case type for the medical image based case;
• determining a minimum data set required to complete the medical image based case in accordance with the identified case type;
• receiving from the requesting system first medical image based case information comprising digital medical image data and metadata in association with the case number;
• storing the digital medical image data and the metadata as part of the medical image based case;
• analyzing the stored digital medical image data and metadata in accordance with the minimum data set;
• and
• determining that the case is complete based on said analysis.
