A method for operating a data storage device that includes reading data and storage parity data, generating transformation parity data through a masking operation on the storage parity data, and performing an error correcting operation on the data, based on the transformation parity data.

A method for operating a data storage device, comprising:
- reading data and storage parity data;
- generating transformation parity data through a masking operation on the storage parity data;
- and
- performing an error correcting operation on the data, based on the transformation parity data.

- a nonvolatile memory device suitable for reading data and storage parity data;
