Abstract
For serving sequential read patterns from a compressed journal storage system, a construction area cache algorithm is used to temporarily store the read and decompressed data in a user view sequential order to minimize disk I/Os and CPU utilization while serving the data to the user.
Claims20
A method for data decompression using a construction area by a processor device in a computing environment, the method comprising:
- for reading compressed data stored in a journaling format, decompressing data from a plurality of compressed data blocks and copying the decompressed data into the construction area in a sequential order to temporarily store the decompressed data for conducting sequential read operations from the construction area.
A system data decompression using a construction area in a computing environment, comprising:
- at least one processor device, operable in the computing storage environment, wherein the processor device:
- for reading compressed data stored in a journaling format, decompresses data from a plurality of compressed data blocks and copying the decompressed data into the construction area in a sequential order to temporarily store the decompressed data for conducting sequential read operations from the construction area.
A computer program product for data decompression using a construction area in a computing environment by a processor device, the computer program product comprising a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having computer-readable program code portions stored therein, the computer-readable program code portions comprising:
- a first executable portion that, for reading compressed data stored in a journaling format, decompresses data from a plurality of compressed data blocks and copying the decompressed data into the construction area in a sequential order to temporarily store the decompressed data for conducting sequential read operations from the construction area.
