Abstract
A pyrotechnic device contains a housing having a first end and a second end. A structural component or piston is contained within the housing. A polymer is infused into and/or about the structural component thereby accommodating the immediate ignition of the same by a known initiator/igniter in a known manner, the initiator also contained within the housing.
Claims20
A pyrotechnic actuator containing:
- a housing having a first end and a second end;
- a piston rod contained within said housing, said piston rod having a third end and a fourth end, the third end proximate to the first end and the fourth end proximate to the second end;
- a piston cap formed about the third end of the piston rod, the piston cap containing a polymer;
- and
- an initiator fixed at the first end and proximate to the third end of the piston for igniting the piston cap upon actuation of the actuator.

A pyrotechnic device containing:
- a housing having a first end and a second end;
- a structural, component contained within the housing, said structural component having a first portion and a second portion, the first portion, proximate to the first end and the second portion proximate to the second end;
- a polymer infused into or about said structural component at said first, portion;
- and
- an initiator fixed at the first end and proximate to the first, portion of the structural component for igniting the polymer upon actuation of the device.

- providing a housing having a first end and a second end;
- providing a structural component within said housing, said structural component having a first portion and a second portion, the first portion proximate to the first end and the second portion, proximate to the second end;
- providing a polymer fixed about said structural component at said first portion;

- providing an initiator fixed at the first end and proximate to the first portion of the structural component for igniting the polymer upon actuation of the device.
