Abstract
The present invention provides a minimally-invasive percutaneous device that can be positioned within the body of a subject to aid in the movement or pumping of a bodily fluid. In one embodiment, the device comprises a plurality of pump units configured to transform from a first compressed configuration where the pump units are organized in a serial arrangement into a second expanded configuration where the pump units are reorganized into a parallel arrangement.
Claims20
An implantable device for promoting the movement of a bodily fluid comprising
- a plurality of pump units;
- and
- a flexible frame surrounding the plurality of pump units, wherein each of the pump units are connected to the flexible frame;
- wherein the geometry of the flexible frame is convertible such that the radial expansion of the frame transforms the device from a first configuration, where the plurality of pump units are arranged in a serial arrangement, into a second configuration, where the plurality of pumps are arranged in a substantially parallel arrangement.
A method for promoting the movement of a body fluid comprising
- inserting an implantable device into a vessel of a subject, wherein the device comprises a plurality of pump units and a flexible frame surrounding the plurality of pump units, such the when inserted the device is in a first configuration where the plurality of pump units are arranged in a serial arrangement;
- guiding the implantable device to a desired implantation site;
- and
- promoting the expansion of the flexible frame of the device thereby transforming the device into a second configuration where the plurality of pump units are arranged in a parallel arrangement.
A device for promoting the movement of a bodily fluid comprising:
- at least one pump;
- and
- a shell having an exterior wall and an interior wall forming a lumen, wherein the pump is attached to the shell such that at least a portion of the pump is positioned within the lumen of the shell.
