Abstract
A suture anchor kit includes an anchor body having a central bore extending from an opening at a proximal end of the anchor body through a portion of the length thereof. A transverse member is disposed in the central bore such that the ends of the transverse member extend across the bore to the anchor body. A suture anchor threading apparatus may have a handle and a suture threader extending from the handle. The suture threader has a wire loop open sufficiently to accept at least one suture and is made of an elastic material having a resiliency sufficient to bend 120° to 180° about a 1 mm to 4 mm radius without permanent deformation.
Claims20
A suture anchor threading apparatus, comprising:
- a handle;
- and
- a suture threader extending from the handle, the suture threader comprising a wire loop open sufficiently to accept at least one suture, the wire loop comprising an elastic material having a resiliency sufficient to bend 120° to 180° about a 1 mm to 4 mm radius without permanent deformation, at least a distal portion of the wire loop having a longitudinal profile curvature.
A suture anchor kit, comprising:
- an anchor body having a central bore extending from an opening at a proximal end of the anchor body through a portion of the length thereof, and a transverse member disposed in the central bore and having ends that extend across the bore and attach to the anchor body;
- and
- a suture anchor threading apparatus comprising a handle and a suture threader extending from the handle, the suture threader having a wire loop open sufficiently to accept at least one suture, the wire loop comprising an elastic material having a resiliency sufficient to bend 120° to 180° about a 1 mm to 4 mm radius without permanent deformation, at least a distal portion of the wire loop having a longitudinal profile curvature.
A method of threading a suture anchor, the suture anchor of the sort having an anchor body with a central bore extending from an opening at a proximal end of the anchor body through a portion of the length thereof, and a transverse member disposed in the central bore with ends that extend across the bore and attach to the anchor body, the method comprising:
- inserting a wire loop of a suture threader through the opening of the central bore on a first side of the transverse member, so as to cause the wire loop to bend around the transverse member and extend from the opening on a second side of the transverse member;
- inserting one or more sutures through the wire loop of the suture threader on the second side of the transverse member;
- and
- retracting the wire loop from the central bore such that the one or more sutures is looped around the transverse member with ends extending through the opening.
