Abstract
A bevel gear manufacturing face cutter head (2) for face hobbing and face milling wherein the cutter head comprises positive blade seating surfaces (16, 18) and the capability to clamp the blades (8) tight to the positive seating surfaces and to adjust the cutting blades radially after they are pre-clamped and axially located.
Claims17
A cutter head for a rotatable cutting tool, said cutter head being generally disc-shaped and rotatable about a cutter head axis, said cutter head comprising:
- a first side and a second side,
- one or more cutting blade positioning slots arranged in said cutter head with each of said blade positioning slots extending between said first and second sides,
- said blade positioning slots each having at least one blade seating surface extending between said first second sides,
- said at least one blade seating surface having a modified shape and extending from said first side to said second side wherein said modified shape departs from the shape of a continuous straight seating surface extending from said first side to said second side.
A method of truing at least one cutting blade positioned in a cutter head, said method comprising:
- providing a cutter head being generally disc-shaped and rotatable about a cutter head axis, said cutter head comprising a first side and a second side, one or more cutting blade positioning slots arranged in said cutter head with each of said blade positioning slots extending between said first and second sides, said blade positioning slots each having at least one blade seating surface extending between said first second sides, said at least one blade seating surface having a modified shape and extending from said first side to said second side wherein said modified shape departs from the shape of a continuous straight seating surface extending from said first side to said second side,
- inserting a cutting blade into at least one of said blade positioning slots and bringing said cutting blade into contact with said at least one blade seating surface,
- applying a force to said cutting blade to clamp said cutting blade against said at least one seating surface whereby a tip of said cutting blade is located at a radial distance from said axis,
- applying an additional force to said cutting blade to effectively move said cutting blade on said modified surface thereby effecting a change in said radial distance of the cutting blade tip.
A cutter head for a rotatable cutting tool, said cutter head being generally disc-shaped and rotatable about a cutter head axis, said cutter head comprising:
- a first side and a second side,
- one or more cutting blade positioning slots arranged in said cutter head with each of said blade positioning slots extending between said first and second sides,
- said blade positioning slots each having at least one blade seating surface extending between said first second sides,
- said at least one blade seating surface being arranged on a pivot block extending from said first side to said second side, said pivot block being pivotable about a pivoting means located between said first and second sides.
