A recombinant classical swine fever virus (CSFV) mutant, FlagT4-mFT-Gv, comprising cDNA (SEQ ID NO:1) encoding a mutation in CSFV E1 glycoprotein wherein the mutation comprises a 20 mer insertion, said mutation being identical to the mutant FlagT4, wherein said recombinant CSFV mutants, FlagT4-mFT-Gv and FlagT4, are live attenuated CSFVs and said FLAG™ epitope carried by said live attenuated CSFVs is capable of being recognized by monoclonal antibodies specifically binding to said FLAG™ epitope, which serves as a positive marker for said attenuated CSFV mutant, wherein the nucleotides 2435-2488 of said cDNA (SEQ ID NO:1) of FlagT4-mFT-Gv have been changed and differ entirely from nucleotides 2435-2488 of the cDNA sequence (SEQ ID NO:3) of FlagT4 and said nucleotides encode the same amino acids in positions 688-705 of SEQ ID NO:2 and SEQ ID NO:4 of FlagT4-mFTGv and FlagT4, respectively.
