Abstract
The present invention provides an apparatus and method for cutting a chamfer into the edge of a material while simultaneously making another cut in the material. The chamfer provides the cut material with reduced susceptibility to top surface edge swell.

A circular saw blade comprising:
- a cutting profile defined by primary cutting surfaces and secondary cutting surfaces approximately evenly distributed around a circumference of the circular blade, the cutting profile comprising
- either a tongue or a groove of a tongue-and-groove pattern from the primary cutting surfaces, the tongue or groove on a side of the cutting profile, and
- a chamfer of a bottom edge of the side of the cutting profile from the secondary cutting surfaces.
A circular saw blade comprising:
- a cutting profile defined by primary cutting surfaces and secondary cutting surfaces approximately evenly distributed around a circumference of the circular blade, wherein the saw blade is configured to form the cutting profile in an oriented strand board (OSB) panel when the saw blade is rotated on a central axis and the OSB panel is contacted to the primary and secondary cutting surfaces of the rotating saw blade, the cutting profile comprising
- either a tongue or a groove of a tongue-and-groove pattern from the primary cutting surfaces, the tongue or groove on a side of the cutting profile, and
- a chamfer of a bottom edge of the side of the cutting profile from the secondary cutting surfaces, the chamfer and the tongue or groove sharing an edge, wherein a length of the chamfer perpendicular to the side surface is equal to or less than about 2 inches and a depth of the chamfer along the side surface is equal to or less than about 1/10 inch,
- wherein a top edge of the side of the cutting profile opposite the bottom edge is free of a chamfer.

A circular saw blade, comprising:
- cutting surfaces configured to cut while the saw blade is rotated about an axis a primary cut on a side surface of a panel comprising a tongue-side or groove-side of a tongue-and-groove pattern and to approximately simultaneously cut a secondary cut comprising a chamfer of a bottom surface edge of the panel.
