Abstract
A directional fire-starting device includes a two-chambered housing. A first chamber houses a flint material and includes an open end and a slot in the sidewall. A striker is configured to strike the flint material by selectively inserting through the slot. Spark from the striker traveling across the flint is purposely directed to the open end ensuring a predictable path for the spark. A second, weather-tight chamber arranges at a second open end and the second chamber is configured to store tinder material.
Claims15
A system for starting a fire, the system comprising:
- a directional fire-starting device comprising
- a housing having at least one sidewall and a first and second oppositely disposed and open ends wherein
- a flint chamber is disposed adjacent to the first open end, the flint chamber further comprising a slot disposed on a portion of the sidewall,
- a tinder chamber is disposed adjacent to the second open end;
- a flint material adapted to couple inside the first chamber and arranged so that at least a portion of a surface of the flint material is disposed adjacent to the slot;
- a striker having a striker body comprising a handle and an oppositely arranged strike-bar portion;
- and
- a tinder material adapted to removably insert in the tinder chamber of the directional fire-starting device.
A directional fire-starting device comprising:
- a housing comprising at least one sidewall,
- the housing further comprising a first open end and a second open end, the first open end cooperating with the at least one sidewall to define an open-topped flint-receiving chamber having an elongated slot configured in a portion of the at least one sidewall, the slot extending along a long axis of the housing,
- the housing at the open second end cooperating with the at least one sidewall to define an open-ended a tinder chamber;
- a second-end cover configured to selectively couple to the second open end and when so coupled to the second end the tinder chamber is a weather-tight chamber;
- a rod inserted in the flint-receiving chamber arranged to present at least a portion of the rod adjacent to the elongated slot;
- and
- a striker comprising a handle and an oppositely disposed striker bar, the handle adapted to at least partially insert into the first open end of the housing and the striker bar configured to selectively insert into the elongated slot to contact a portion of the rod.
A method of assembling a directional fire starting kit comprising:
- providing a directional fire-starting device comprising
- a housing comprising at least one sidewall,
- the housing further comprising a first open end and a second open end, the first open end cooperating with the at least one sidewall to define an open-topped flint-receiving chamber having an elongated slot configured in a portion of the at least one sidewall, the slot extending along a long axis of the housing,
- the housing at the open second end cooperating with the at least one sidewall to define an open-ended a tinder chamber;
- a second-end cover configured to selectively couple to the second open end and when so coupled to the second end the tinder chamber is a weather-tight chamber;
- a rod inserted in the flint-receiving chamber arranged to present at least a portion of the rod adjacent to the elongated slot;
- and
- a striker comprising a handle and an oppositely disposed striker bar, the handle adapted to at least partially insert into the first open end of the housing and the striker bar configured to selectively insert into the elongated slot to contact a portion of the rod;
- providing a tinder material for removable storage in the tinder chamber;
- and
- providing flint material for selectively inserting in the flint chamber.
