Abstract
A device for determining power output comprising at least two sensors configured to be accommodated between a foot and a sole of a shoe, and wherein the device is adapted to attach to a cleat; wherein the sensors are adapted to measure a compression force and a tension force applied by a user to a pedal of a bicycle such that the power output can be determined. The present invention overcomes the limitations of the prior art shoe sensors by providing a force measurement device inside the cycling shoe that can measure or calculate compression (push down), tension (pull up) and shear forces that act at the plane of the interface between the cleat and the pedal.
Claims15
A device for determining power output comprising at least two sensors configured to be accommodated between a foot and a sole of a shoe, and adapted to attach to a cleat;
- wherein the sensors are adapted to measure a compression force and a tension force applied by a user to a pedal of a bicycle such that the power output can be determined.
A shoe for bicycling comprising a device having at least two sensors configured to be accommodated between a foot and a sole of a shoe, and adapted to attach to a cleat;
- wherein the sensors are adapted to measure a compression force and a tension force applied by a user to a pedal of a bicycle such that the power output can be determined of any one of the preceding claims.
A method for determining power output comprising the steps of positioning at least two sensors between a foot and a sole of a shoe, and adapted to attach to a cleat;
- and measuring a compression force and a tension force applied by a user to a pedal of a bicycle using said sensors such that the power output can be determined.
