The accessory storage unit includes a positionable lid covering a second storage section that is separate from and external to the interior storage section of the cooler body. The accessory storage unit, when mounted on the front of the cooler, includes an undercut that can be used as part of a tie-down system. The tie-down system includes a tie-down cord and at least one tie-down cord retainer. In operation the tie-down cord is passed through the retainer and looped under the undercut to keep it in place. Then the tie-down may be tightened to keep gear in place. ## Claims ### Claim 1 A portable cooler, comprising: a cooler body formed of an insulating shell defining an interior storage section; and an integrated accessory storage unit affixed to the cooler body, the accessory storage unit having a positionable lid covering a second storage section that is separate from and external to the interior storage section of the cooler body, the positionable lid having an open position and a closed position, and the storage unit structured to keep items placed inside of the storage unit within the storage unit when the positionable lid is in the closed position and the cooler is moved. ### Claim 2 (depends on 1) The portable cooler of claim 1 in which the lid is shut by a latch when in the closed position. ### Claim 3 (depends on 1) The portable cooler of claim 1 in which the lid is perforated. ### Claim 4 (depends on 1) The portable cooler of claim 1 in which the portable cooler further comprises a cooler lid, and in which the storage unit is accessible regardless of an open or closed state of the cooler lid. ### Claim 5 (depends on 1) The portable cooler of claim 1 further comprising a bottle opener adjacent to the integrated accessory storage unit. ### Claim 6 (depends on 1) The portable cooler of claim 1 further comprising a storage unit support disposed within the cooler body, and in which the storage unit is attached to the cooler body by inserting a fastener through the accessory storage unit, through an outer surface of the cooler body, and into the storage unit support. ### Claim 7 (depends on 1) The portable cooler of claim 1 in which the integrated accessory storage unit is sized to store at least a mobile telephone and a music speaker. ### Claim 8 (depends on 7) The portable cooler of claim 7 in which the integrated accessory storage unit is approximately 10 inches wide, 8 inches tall, and 3 inches deep ### Claim 9 A portable cooler including a tie-down system, the cooler comprising: a tie-down cord; at least one tie-down cord retainer through which the tie-down cord is placed and structured to resist movement of the tie-down cord in a first direction to a greater degree than the tie-down cord retainer is structured to resist movement of the tie-down cord in a second direction that is opposite the first direction. ### Claim 10 (depends on 9) The portable cooler including a tie-down system of claim 9, in which the tie-down cord retainer is coupled to a first side of the cooler, the portable cooler further comprising a cord retaining structure coupled to another side of the cooler opposite the first side of the cooler. ### Claim 11 (depends on 10) The portable cooler including a tie-down system of claim 10 in which the tie-down cord retainer is coupled to a back side of the cooler and the cord retaining structure is an undercut coupled to a front side of the cooler. ### Claim 12 (depends on 9) The portable cooler including a tie-down system of claim 9 further comprising at least one cord slot through which the tie-down cord may be placed. ### Claim 13 (depends on 9) The portable cooler including a tie-down system of claim 9 in which the tie-down cord retainer is a clam cleat. ### Claim 14 (depends on 13) The portable cooler including a tie-down system of claim 13 in which the tie clam cleat is formed of plastic. ### Claim 15 (depends on 9) The portable cooler including a tie-down system of claim 9 in which the tie down cord retainer is a clip, latch, knob, or clamp. ### Claim 16 (depends on 9) The portable cooler including a tie-down system of claim 9, further comprising at least two tie-down cord retainers. ### Claim 17 (depends on 9) The portable cooler including a tie-down system of claim 9 in which the tie-down cord has elastic properties. ### Claim 18 (depends on 9) The portable cooler including a tie-down system of claim 9 in which the tie-down cord is formed in an unbroken loop.
