Abstract
The present disclosure relates generally to compositions and methods for production of three-dimensional constructs with high mechanical strength and/or stiffness.
Claims40
A method comprising:
- (i) providing a composition comprising silk particles;
- and
- (ii) compacting the composition by application of pressure into a solid state.
An article of manufacture comprising silk, wherein the article has a compressive strength of at least 5 MPa;
- a compressive elastic modulus (Young's modulus) of at least 100 MPa;
- a shear strength of at least 104 MPa;
- or a density of at least 1.1 g/cm3.
A method for increasing compressive strength, elastic modulus, flexural stiffness, or shear stiffness of a silk-based material, the method comprising:
- (i) providing a composition comprising silk particles;
- and
- (ii) compacting the composition by application of pressure into a solid state.
