Abstract
Disclosed herein is a microemulsifying system consisting essentially of coconut oil and Polysorbate 80 in a specific weight ratio. Also disclosed herein are microemulsion preconcentrates and microemulsions that contain a lipophilic functional ingredient formulated with the microemulsifying system. Processes for preparing the microemulsion preconcentrates and microemulsions are also disclosed herein.
Claims19
A microemulsion preconcentrate consisting essentially of:
- a microemulsifying system consisting of coconut oil and Polysorbate 80, the weight ratio of coconut oil to Polysorbate 80 ranging from 1:4 to 1:9;
- and
- a lipophilic functional ingredient dissolved in the microemulsifying system, the weight ratio of the lipophilic functional ingredient to the microemulsifying system being not greater than 10.
A method for preparing a microemulsion preconcentrate, the method comprising:
- uniformly mixing a lipophilic functional ingredient with coconut oil, followed by uniformly mixing with Polysorbate 80,
- wherein the weight ratio of coconut oil to Polysorbate 80 ranges from 1:4 to 1:9, and the weight ratio of the lipophilic functional ingredient to the sum of coconut oil and Polysorbate 80 is not greater than 10.
A method for preparing an o/w microemulsion for oral administration, the method comprising:
- uniformly mixing a lipophilic functional ingredient with coconut oil, followed by uniformly mixing with Polysorbate 80 so that a microemulsion preconcentrate is formed;
- and
- diluting the microemulsion preconcentrate with an aqueous medium, wherein the weight ratio of coconut oil to Polysorbate 80 ranges from 1:4 to 1:9, and the weight ratio of the lipophilic functional ingredient to the sum of coconut oil and Polysorbate 80 is not greater than 10.
