High speed high density connector assembly

An electrical connector assembly comprising:

• a first connector forming a mating port and a mounting port perpendicular to each other, and including a plurality of wafers stacked with one another along a transverse direction, each of said wafers including:
• a conductive body defining a plurality of channels exposed to an exterior in the transverse direction, a plurality of contact modules received within the corresponding channels, respectively, each of said contact modules including a pair of differential contacts embedded within an insulator with mating ends and mounting ends respectively exposed to the mating port and the mounting port, respectively;
• and
• in each of said contact modules, to any cross-section along an extension direction thereof, most portions of the pair of differential contacts are essentially fully circumferentially enclosed within essentially a shielding circumstance due to cooperation of the two neighboring conductive bodies.

A header connector comprising:

• an conductive body forming a plurality of receiving cavities in matrix with columns and rows;
• a plurality of terminal modules retained within the corresponding receiving cavities, respectively, each of said terminal modules including a pair of differential contacts embedded within an insulative part;
• a plurality of shielding blades associated with the corresponding terminal modules and extending in a row direction so as to be alternately arranged with the corresponding terminal modules in a column direction perpendicular to said row direction, and one shielding blade in one row cooperating with another neighboring shielding blade in another row to perform shielding effect with regard to the corresponding terminal module therebetween in the column direction;
• and
• a plurality of shielding straps extending along the column direction so as to be alternately arranged with the corresponding terminal modules in the row direction, and one shielding strap in one column cooperating with another neighboring shielding strap in another column to perform shielding effect with regard to the corresponding terminal module therebetween in the row direction.
