Abstract
The present invention is directed to a system and method for restricting data, or portions thereof, to specific display devices when accessed by a user. Furthermore, the system and method of the invention are directed, in part, to evaluating in real time, the access level of a device and restricting the availability of sensitive information on the device according to the access level as determined by device location and hardware configuration.
Claims18
A computer-implemented method for selectively displaying a dataset having an access restriction level on a display device, the method comprising:
- requesting with a remote display device, a dataset stored in the memory of a computer using a data request module configured as code executing in the memory of a processor wherein the dataset is associated with an access restriction level;
- transmitting, to a computer controlling access to the dataset, at least data relating to the display characteristics of the remote display device using a device configuration module which comprises code executing in a processor;
- determining the access restriction level of the display device using a restriction level module which comprises code executing in the processor;
- comparing, with a comparison module configured as code executing in the processor, the access restriction level of the display device and the access restriction level of the requested dataset;
- transmitting the requested dataset to the display device when the access restriction level of the display device is equal to or greater than the access restriction level of the dataset using a transmission module;
- and
- causing the display device to display the dataset with a display module configured as code executing in a processor.
A computer implemented method for selectively displaying information having a specified privacy level on a display device, the method comprising:
- accessing with a remote display device, a data object containing display information from a database using an access device module which comprises code executing in a processor, where the data object includes at least one access condition level and each access condition level determines the access condition status of the data object;
- determining an access condition status for each feature of the data object accessed using a device condition module which comprises code executing in the processor;
- obtaining from at least one display device, a display condition level of the at least one device using a display status module which comprises code executing in the processor;
- and
- causing the display of the data object on the display device when the display condition level of the device is equal to or greater than the display condition level.
A computer storage medium encoded with a computer program, the program comprising instructions that when executed by one or more data processing apparatus cause the one or more data processing apparatus to perform operations for affecting action in response to a determination that data in a digital file is restricted to display on a display device based on the display device configuration, the operations comprising:
- accessing by the at least one processor, a digital file having at least one display data component;
- applying by the at least one processor an algorithm that calculates the restriction value of the data components of the digital file;
- accessing the display device configuration of at least one display device and assigning a display value to each device based on device configuration;
- displaying at least one data component to a first display device based on a comparison of the restriction value and display value;
- and
- displaying at least one data component to a second display device based on a comparison of the restriction value and display value.
