Abstract
A reconfigurable cutting tool includes a boring head at one end, an attachment portion at a second end that is opposite the first end, and a boring bar disposed between the boring head and the attachment portion. The boring bar is made of a shape memory material such that a geometry of the reconfigurable boring tool is selectively changed in response to an activation signal from a temperature controlling processor.

A reconfigurable boring tool, comprising:
- a boring head at one end;
- an attachment portion at a second end that is opposite the first end;
- and
- a boring bar disposed between the boring head and the attachment portion, wherein the boring bar is made of a shape memory material such that a geometry of the reconfigurable boring tool is selectively changed in response to an activation signal from a temperature controlling processor.

A process for selectively changing a geometry of a cutting tool, comprising:
- forming a boring head at one end of a boring tool;
- forming an attachment portion at a second end that is opposite the first end;
- forming a boring bar disposed between the boring head and the attachment portion, wherein the boring bar is made of a shape memory material;
- and
- activating the shape memory material to selectively change a geometry of the boring tool.
