Abstract
In an approach for optimizing a virtual machine (VM) operating system (OS) template, one or more processors obtain a list of packages in an existing VM template. The processors obtain a list of packages required to be included in the existing VM template. The processors determine differences between the list of packages in the existing VM template and the list of packages required to be included in the existing VM template. The processors update the existing VM template based on the determined differences between the list of packages in the existing VM template and the list of packages required to be included in the existing VM template.
Claims20
A method for optimizing a virtual machine (VM) operating system (OS) template, the method comprising:
- one or more processors obtaining a list of packages in an existing VM template;
- the one or more processors obtaining a list of packages required to be included in the existing VM template;
- the one or more processors determining differences between the list of packages in the existing VM template and the list of packages required to be included in the existing VM template;
- and
- the one or more processors updating the existing VM template based on the determined differences between the list of packages in the existing VM template and the list of packages required to be included in the existing VM template.
A computer program product for optimizing a virtual machine (VM) operating system (OS) template, the computer program product comprising:
- one or more computer-readable storage media and program instructions stored on the one or more computer-readable storage media, the program instructions comprising:
- program instructions to obtain a list of packages in an existing VM template;
- program instructions to obtain a list of packages required to be included in the existing VM template;
- program instructions to determine differences between the list of packages in the existing VM template and the list of packages required to be included in the existing VM template;
- and
- program instructions to update the existing VM template based on the determined differences between the list of packages in the existing VM template and the list of packages required to be included in the existing VM template.
A computer system for optimizing a virtual machine (VM) operating system (OS) template, the computer system comprising:
- one or more computer processors;
- one or more computer-readable storage media;
- program instructions stored on the computer-readable storage media for execution by at least one of the one or more processors, the program instructions comprising:
- program instructions to obtain a list of packages in an existing VM template;
- program instructions to obtain a list of packages required to be included in the existing VM template;
- program instructions to determine differences between the list of packages in the existing VM template and the list of packages required to be included in the existing VM template;
- and
- program instructions to update the existing VM template based on the determined differences between the list of packages in the existing VM template and the list of packages required to be included in the existing VM template.
