Input filters and filter-driven input processing

A method for an input processing component to route input to a target component, the method comprising:

• an act of the input processing component receiving an input from a request received from an inputting entity;
• an act of the input processing component identifying a target component as a target of the request;
• an act of the input processing component accessing an input filter associated with the target component;
• an act of the input processing component interpreting the input filter as identifying input validation information for the target component;
• an act of the input processing component determining that the input is valid based on the input validation information;
• and
• an act of the input processing component responding to the determination by providing the input to the target component.

A computing system comprising:

• one or more processors;
• one or more computer-readable storage media having thereon computer-executable instructions that are structured such that, when interpreted by the one or more processors of the computing system, cause the computing system to operate an input processing component that is configured to perform a method in response to receiving an input from an inputting entity, the method comprising:
• an act of identifying a target component as a target of the input, wherein there are a plurality of possible target components served by the input processing component depending on the input, each of at least some of the plurality of possible target components having an input filter that identifies input validation information for the corresponding target component;
• an act of accessing an input filter associated with the target component;
• an act of interpreting the input filter as identifying input validation information for the target component;
• an act of determining that the input is valid using the input validation information for the target component;
• and
• an act of responding to the determination by providing the input to the target component.
