Click magnet images

A system comprising:

• a data store for storing selection vectors;
• and
• one or more processors configured to interact with the data store, the one or more processors being further configured to perform operations comprising:
• obtaining, for each of a plurality of images, a selection vector for the image, the selection vector including a plurality of vector elements, each vector element corresponding to a unique search query, and the value of each vector element being proportional to a number of selections of image search results that included a representation of the image when the search results were presented in response to the unique search query;
• identifying a category for each search query of each selection vector, each category for a search query belonging to a set of categories;
• for each image:
• determining a first number of selections of image search results that included a representation of the image for search queries categorized as belonging to a proper subset of the set of categories;
• determining a total number of selections of image search results that included a representation of the image;
• and
• determining that the image is a click magnet image based at least in part on the first number of selections and the total number of selections.

A computer storage medium encoded with a computer program, the program comprising instructions that when executed by data processing apparatus cause the data processing apparatus to perform operations comprising:

• obtaining, for each of a plurality of images, a selection vector for the image, the selection vector including a plurality of vector elements, each vector element corresponding to a unique search query, and the value of each vector element being proportional to a number of selections of image search results that included a representation of the image when the search results were presented in response to the unique search query;
• identifying a category for each search query of each selection vector, each category for a search query belonging to a set of categories;
• for each image:
• determining a first number of selections of image search results that included a representation of the image for search queries categorized as belonging to a proper subset of the set of categories;
• determining a total number of selections of image search results that included a representation of the image;
• and
• determining that the image is a click magnet image based at least in part on the first number of selections and the total number of selections.
