Abstract
A bronchoscope adapter is configured for one hand operation by providing a slide lock that is captured within a housing and a retaining nut that can be operated with a single finger or thumb. Rotation of the retaining nut is eased by isolating rotational force from a compression block with a spacer ring.
Claims20
An adapter for a bronchoscope comprising:
- a housing;
- a retaining nut configured to mate with said housing;
- a clamping block defining an inner lumen and contained between said housing and said retaining nut such that tightening said retaining nut against said housing compresses said inner lumen, reducing a diameter thereof;
- a spacer ring between said retaining nut and said clamping block that transfers axial force from said retaining nut to said clamping block while preventing the transmission of rotational force from said retaining nut to said clamping block.

An adapter for a bronchoscope comprising:
- a housing defining a longitudinal inner lumen and a transverse slot;
- a slide lock contained within said transverse slot and defining a longitudinal slot having a small circular end and a larger circular end;
- wherein said larger circular end is sized to fit over a gasket fitting of a bronchoscope access port;
- wherein said smaller circular end is sized to engage a surface of said gasket fitting.

A method of axially securing a tool within an access port of a bronchoscope comprising:
- passing said tool through a lumen of an elastomeric clamping block affixed to said access port;
- reducing a diameter of said lumen around said tool by axially compressing said clamping block while isolating said clamping block from radial force.
