Abstract
A roaming condition is detected on a wireless device, in which the wireless device is operational in a region where the wireless device is not permitted in have wireless services other than a designated minimal set of services. A service request message is generated on the wireless device. The service request can be structured for handing by a home region service provider that can initiate one or more wireless services for the computing device using a local service provider for the region. The service request message can be transmitted from the computing device using the designated minimal set of services.
Claims15
A computer-readable medium that stores instructions for enabling wireless services on a computing device, wherein the instructions, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
- detecting a roaming condition in which the computing device is operational in a region where the computing device is not permitted, by default, to have wireless services other than a designated minimal set of services;
- generating, on the computing device, a service request message, the service request message being structured for handing by a home region service provider that can initiate one or more wireless services for the computing device using a local service provider for the region;
- and
- causing transmission of the service request message from the computing device using the designated minimal set of services.
A wireless device comprising:
- a memory to store a set of instructions;
- a wireless communication sub-system;
- one or more processors that use instructions stored in memory to:
- respond to an international roaming condition in which wireless services are disabled for a local carrier, by generating a service request message for a home carrier using a network messaging service,
- wherein the service request message specifies one or more wireless services to be enabled for the wireless device while the wireless device is roaming internationally;
- cause transmission of the service request message through the wireless communication sub-system, so that the service request message is transmitted to the home carries through the local carrier.
A computer system for providing carrier services, the computer system comprising:
- a memory resource that stores instructions;
- a telephony network interface;
- one or more processors that use instructions stored in the memory resource to perform operations that include:
- process an incoming service request message from a wireless device that is roaming internationally, including determining an identifier for the wireless device and determining one or more wireless services that are being requested in the service request message;
- access a user account associated with the wireless device in order to approve or disapprove each of the one or more wireless services that are being requested;
- and
- communicate a response to a local carrier where the wireless device is roaming, to enable the one or more wireless services if the one or more wireless services are approved for international roaming by the wireless device.
