Abstract
The present invention relates to a blend of at least one boron source and at least one silicon source, wherein the blend comprises boron and silicon in a weight ratio boron to silicon within a range from about 5:100 to about 2:1, wherein silicon and boron are present in the blend in at least 25 wt %, and wherein the at least one boron source and the at least one silicon source are oxygen free except for inevitable amounts of contaminating oxygen, and wherein the blend is a mechanical blend of powders, and wherein particles in the powders have an average particle size less than 250 μm. The present invention relates further to a composition comprising the blend a substrate applied with the blend, a method for providing a brazed product, and uses.

A mechanical blend of particles of powders comprising at least one boron source and at least one silicon source, wherein the particles have an average particle size less than 250 μm, and each particle is either of a silicon source or of a boron source,
- wherein the mechanical blend comprises boron and silicon in a weight ratio boron to silicon within a range from about 5:100 to about 1:1,
- wherein silicon and boron are together present in the mechanical blend in at least 25 wt %, and
- wherein the at least one boron source and the at least one silicon source are oxygen free except for inevitable amounts of contaminating oxygen, and wherein the inevitable amount of contaminating oxygen is less than 10 wt %.
A method for providing a product having at least one brazed joint between contact areas between substrates, said method comprising the steps of:
- applying at least one silicon source and at least one boron source on at least one substrate;
- assembling the at least one substrate with at least one additional substrate, such that at least one silicon source and at least one boron source are present between contact areas of the at least one substrate and the at least one additional substrate;
- heating the assembled substrates to a brazing temperature below 1250° C., in a furnace in vacuum, in an inert gas, in a reducing atmosphere, or combinations thereof;
- and
- cooling the assembled substrates to obtain the product having at least one brazed joint between contact areas of the at least one substrate and the at least one additional substrate.
