Abstract
The present invention relates to methods and medicaments useful for treating idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IFF) by administering anti-CTGF antibodies. Methods for prognosing individuals with IPF are also provided.

A method for selecting a subject with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) for continued treatment with an anti-CTGF antibody, the method comprising:
- (a) comparing a first radiographic scan of the subject's lungs obtained before treatment with the anti-CTGF antibody to a second radiographic scan of the subject's lungs obtained after treatment with the anti-CTGF antibody;
- and
- (b) selecting the subject for continued treatment with the anti-CTGF antibody, if the second radiographic scan obtained after treatment with the anti-CTGF antibody shows a reduction or stabilization of at least one pulmonary radiographic parameter compared to the first radiographic scan obtained prior to treatment with an anti-CTGF antibody, wherein the pulmonary radiographic parameter is selected from the group consisting of ground glass opacities, fibrosis and honeycomb formation.
A method for selecting a subject with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) for continued treatment with an anti-CTGF antibody, the method comprising:
- (a) comparing a first radiographic scan of the subject's lungs obtained before treatment with the anti-CTGF antibody to a second radiographic scan of the subject's lungs obtained after treatment with the anti-CTGF antibody;
- and
- (b) selecting the subject for continued treatment with the anti-CTGF antibody, if the second radiographic scan obtained after treatment with the anti-CTGF antibody shows a reduction or stabilization in quantitative interstitial lung disease (QILD) compared to the first radiographic scan obtained prior to treatment with an anti-CTGF antibody.
A method for selecting a subject with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) for treatment with an anti-CTGF antibody, the method comprising:
- (a) examining a radiographic scan of the subject's lungs;
- and
- (b) selecting the subject for treatment with an anti-CTGF antibody if the extent of honeycombing within the lung is less than 25%.
A method for selecting a subject with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) for treatment with an anti-CTGF antibody, the method comprising:
- (a) examining a radiographic scan of the subject's lungs;
- and
- (b) selecting the subject for treatment with an anti-CTGF antibody if the extent of parenchymal fibrosis is less than 50%.
A method for selecting a subject with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) for treatment with an anti-CTGF antibody, the method comprising:
- (a) measuring the subject's forced vital capacity percent (FVC %) predicted;
- and
- (a) selecting the subject for treatment with an anti-CTGF antibody if the subject's FVC % predicted is greater than about 55%.
