Abstract
An apparatus and method for accessing and/or repairing a select subset of fibers in an ADSS fiber optic cable. The apparatus includes a housing extending from a first end to a second end. A first fiber optic spice tray is positioned within the housing closer to the first end than to the second end. A second fiber optic spice tray is positioned within the housing and spaced apart from the first spice tray. A tension member extends through the housing and includes a first mechanical connector near the first end and a second mechanical connector near the second end. The connectors provide art attachment location for deadends at either end for transferring tension from the undamaged portion of the ADSS fiber optic cable.
Claims39
An apparatus for accessing select fibers in an ADSS fiber optic cable, comprising:
- a housing extending from a first end to a second end, wherein the housing is weather resistant when closed by a lid;
- a first fiber optic splice tray positioned within the housing closer to the first end than to the second end;
- a second fiber optic splice tray positioned within the housing and spaced apart from the first splice tray and closer to the second end than to the first end;
- a tension member extending through the housing and including a first mechanical connector external to the housing near the first end and a second mechanical connector external to the housing near the second end.

An ADSS fiber optic cable repair apparatus comprising
- a first splice tray positioned in a closable first compartment;
- a second splice tray positioned in a closable second compartment, the second compartment being spaced apart from the first compartment;
- a sleeve being closable to define a weather resistant internal chamber that fluidly connects a first opening in the first compartment to a second opening in the second compartment;
- a tension member extending between a first end and a second and having a first mechanical connector closer to the first end then the second end and a second mechanical connector closer to the second end then the first end, wherein the tension member is separately connected to each of the first end compartment and the second end compartment and the sleeve.
