The present application relates to a new contact material, methods for the production of said contact material, and the use of said contact material.

An electrical, cadmium-free contact material comprising at least one metal and magnesium stannate Mg2SnO4.
The contact material as claimed in claim I, wherein the metal is silver or a silver alloy.
A process for producing a contact material from metal and magnesium stannate Mg2SnO4 by mixing pulverulent magnesium stannate Mg2SnO4 or magnesium stannate precursor compound with at least one metal powder and optionally further oxides, pressing the mixture in order to obtain a compact and sintering the compact to obtain a sintered body.
