Abstract
A burnthrough resistant laminate film is described. Embodiments of the burnthrough resistant laminate film include a glass layer, a first film, a second film, and an adhesive. The glass layer can include a high purity silicon dioxide cloth. The first film and the second film can be adapted to be fire retardant. The adhesive can include at least one inorganic filler adapted to negate heat transfer. The glass layer, the first film, and the second film can be coupled together by the adhesive and thermally laminated.
Claims23
A burnthrough resistant laminate comprising:
- a first layer being a first film;
- a second layer being a silicon dioxide cloth comprising at least 97 percent pure silicon dioxide fibers;
- a third layer being a second film;
- and
- an adhesive compounded with at least one inorganic filler, wherein (i) the adhesive is located between (a) the first layer and the second layer and (b) the second layer and the third layer, and (ii) the silicon dioxide cloth is impregnated with the adhesive;
- wherein the first film and the second film each comprise polyetheretherketone.

A burnthrough resistant laminate comprising:
- a first polyetheretherketone film;
- a silicon dioxide cloth comprising at least 94 percent pure silicon dioxide fibers;
- a second polyetheretherketone film;
- and
- an adhesive compounded with at least one inorganic filler selected from the group consisting of mica, vermiculite, ceramic fiber, titanium dioxide, fumed silica, and silica microfiber;
- wherein the silicon dioxide cloth is impregnated with the adhesive.
A burnthrough resistant laminate comprising:
- a polyetheretherketone film;
- an adhesive layer;
- a silicon dioxide cloth comprising at least 94 percent pure silicon dioxide fibers, the silicon dioxide fibers being bundled into a plurality of rovings, wherein the plurality of rovings are weaved in a plain weave;
- a second film manufactured from a material selected from a group consisting of fluoropolymer, silicon polymer, polyethersulfone, polyetheretherketone, polyaryletherketone, polysulfone, polyetherimide, polyetherketoneketone, polyphenylenesulfide, and aluminum;
- and
- an adhesive compounded with at least one inorganic filler, wherein (i) the adhesive is located between (a) the first layer and the second layer and (b) the second layer and the third layer, (ii) the silicon dioxide cloth is impregnated with the adhesive, and (iii) the inorganic filler is selected from the group consisting of mica, vermiculite, ceramic fiber, titanium dioxide, fumed silica, and silica microfiber;
- wherein the adhesive layer is located on an outer surface of the polyetheretherketone film.
