Abstract
A television system that provides an on screen display menu system that allows a user to select from available input source using a graphical user interface. The television system also automatically adapts to the type on input signal selected for display. The television system and on screen display menu also support interaction between the television system and attached devices to unify the control of such devices including attached personal computers through the remote control of the television system.

A system for integrating a computer with a television, the system comprising:
- a computer comprising a user interface;
- a television system comprising a display device;
- a plurality of content input sources connected to the television system, the plurality of content input sources comprising a non-computer content input source and a computer content input source;
- wherein the computer is configured to receive a firmware update;
- wherein the computer is configured to add a new content input source;
- wherein the computer is configured to switch between a non-personal computer content input source and a computer content input source;
- wherein the computer is configured to route a command to the television or the computer.

A system for integrating a wireless handheld computing device with a television, the system comprising:
- a wireless handheld computing device operating a wireless communication protocol;
- a television system comprising a display device and configured to receive commands over the wireless communication protocol;
- a plurality of content input sources connected to the television system, the plurality of content input sources comprising a non-computer content input sources and a computer content input source;
- wherein the television system is configured to add a new content input source from the wireless handheld computing device;
- wherein the television system is configured to bi-directionally communicate with an application on the wireless handheld computing device.
