Abstract
A system and method for warning of a possible collision of a motor vehicle with an object is disclosed. The system includes sensors configured to monitor a driving path of the motor vehicle, and a warning unit configured to initiate a safety-related action when an object has been detected within the monitored driving path. A control unit dynamically adapts the monitored driving path or driving envelope as a function of vehicle parameters and/or environmental parameters. A method for warning of a possible collision of a motor vehicle with an object in accordance with this system is also disclosed.

A system for warning of a possible collision of a motor vehicle with an object, the system comprising:
- at least one sensor configured to monitor a driving path of a motor vehicle;
- a warning unit configured to initiate a safety-related action when an object is detected within a driving envelope;
- and
- a control unit configured to dynamically adapt the driving envelope as a function of at least one of a vehicle parameter and an environmental parameter.
The system according to claim 20, wherein control unit comprises a second evaluation unit configured to set a value of the width of the approach space to a predetermined value.
A method for warning of a possible collision of a motor vehicle with an object comprising:
- monitoring a driving path of a motor vehicle;
- initiating a safety-related action when an object is detected within a driving envelope;
- and
- dynamically adapting the driving envelope of a motor vehicle as a function of at least one vehicle parameter and environmental parameter.
