Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring system

A surgical system kit, comprising:

• at least two electrodes configured to be placed on a nerve path of a nerve within a patient, one of the electrodes configured to apply a physical agent and one or more other electrodes configured to receive a response from the patient;
• one or more patient module configured to be connected to the electrodes and configured to stimulate at least one of the electrodes and receive information indicative of a neural response from a segment of the nerve from another one of the electrodes;
• and
• a control unit configured to be coupled to the one or more patient module, receive the information indicative of a neural response, and interpret the information according to a nerve conduction velocity modality to determine the nerve conduction velocity of the segment of the nerve.

A surgical system kit, comprising:

• a peripheral electrode;
• a surgical access instrument configured to be placed in a surgical target site and having a body with a proximal end, and a distal end, two or more electrodes on the distal end at fixed locations and spaced apart a known distance;
• and
• a control unit configured to, send a signal to the peripheral electrode, receive the information indicative of a neural response from at least one electrode of the surgical access instrument, and interpret the information according to a nerve conduction velocity modality to measure the nerve conduction velocity through the segment of the nerve.
