Abstract
A block copolymer comprising a fluorinated block and a non-fluorinated block and method of making the block copolymer are provided. Also provided herein are a coating on an implantable device comprising the block copolymer and method of using the implantable device.

A polymeric coating composition comprising:
- a bioactive agent;
- and
- a block copolymer which comprises end groups, a fluorinated block, and at least one non-fluorinated block;
- wherein the fluorinated block comprises repeating units of the following structure:
- and
- wherein the non-fluorinated block is a polyolefin, polyhydroxyalkanoate, polyorthoester, polyphosphoester, polyphosphoester urethane, poly(amino acid), poly(cyanoacrylate), poly(iminocarbonate), copoly(ether-ester), polyalkylene oxalate, biomolecule, silicone, polyisobutylene and ethylene-alphaolefin copolymer, acrylic polymer, acrylic copolymer, vinyl halide polymer, vinyl halide copolymer, polyvinyl ether, polyvinylidene halide, polyvinyl ketone, polyvinyl aromatic, polyvinyl ester, copolymer of vinyl monomers, copolymer of vinyl monomers and olefins, polyamide, alkyd resin, polycarbonate, polyoxymethylene, polyimide, epoxy resin, or cellulose ether.
The coating composition of claim 1, wherein the non-fluorinated block comprises one or more fluorinated pendant groups.
The coating composition of claim 2, wherein the fluorinated pendant group is —CF3.
The coating composition of claim 1, wherein the bioactive agent is tacrolimus, dexamethasone, rapamycin, everolimus, 40-O-(3-hydroxy)propyl-rapamycin, 40-O-[2-(2-hydroxy)ethoxy]ethyl-rapamycin, or 40-O-tetrazole-rapamycin.
An implantable device comprising the coating composition of claim 1.
The implantable device of claim 5, wherein the non-fluorinated block comprises one or more fluorinated pendant groups.
The implantable device of claim 6, wherein the fluorinated pendant group is —CF3.
The implantable device of claim 5, wherein the bioactive agent is tacrolimus, dexamethasone, rapamycin, everolimus, 40-O-(3-hydroxy)propyl-rapamycin, 40-O-[2-(2-hydroxy)ethoxy]ethyl-rapamycin, or 40-O-tetrazole-rapamycin.
The implantable device of claim 5, wherein the implantable device is a drug-eluting stent.
The implantable device of claim 9, wherein the stent is a self-expandable stent, balloon-expandable stent, or stent-graft.
The implantable device of claim 5, wherein the implantable device is a graft, artificial heart valve, cerebrospinal fluid shunt, pacemaker electrode, or endocardial lead.
The implantable device of claim 11, wherein the graft is an aortic graft.
A polymeric coating composition comprising:
- a bioactive agent;
- and
- a block copolymer which comprises end groups, a fluorinated block, and at least one non-fluorinated block;
- wherein the fluorinated block comprises repeating units of the following structure:
- and
- wherein the non-fluorinated block is polyacrylonitrile, poly(trimethylene carbonate), poly(glycolic acid-co-trimethylene carbonate), poly(hydroxybutyrate-co-valerate), polylactic acid, poly(lactide-co-glycolide), copoly(PEO-PLA), fibrin, fibrinogen, cellulose, starch, collagen, hyaluronic acid, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl methyl ether, polyvinylidene fluoride, polyvinylidene chloride, polystyrene, polyvinyl acetate, an ethylene-methyl methacrylate copolymer, an acrylonitrile-styrene copolymer, an ABS resin, an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, Nylon 66, rayon, rayon-triacetate, cellulose acetate, cellulose butyrate, cellulose acetate butyrate, cellophane, cellulose nitrate, cellulose propionate, carboxymethyl cellulose, or polycaprolactam.
The coating composition of claim 13, wherein the bioactive agent is tacrolimus, dexamethasone, rapamycin, everolimus, 40-O-(3-hydroxy)propyl-rapamycin, 40-O-[2-(2-hydroxy)ethoxy]ethyl-rapamycin, or 40-O-tetrazole-rapamycin.
An implantable device comprising the coating composition of claim 13.
The implantable device of claim 15, wherein the bioactive agent is tacrolimus, dexamethasone, rapamycin, everolimus, 40-O-(3-hydroxy)propyl-rapamycin, 40-O-[2-(2-hydroxy)ethoxy]ethyl-rapamycin, or 40-O-tetrazole-rapamycin.
The implantable device of claim 15, wherein the implantable device is a drug-eluting stent.
