Abstract
The present invention relates to an electric channel inductor assembly. A nonremovable, hollow and nonmagnetic channel mold is used to form the one or more flow channels of the electric channel inductor assembly for electromagnetic circulation of a molten metal composition. A heated fluid medium is circulated in the hollow interior of the channel mold after the mold is situated in the inductor assembly to heat treat the refractory surrounding the exterior walls of the mold. After heat treatment a liquid is supplied to the hollow interior of the mold to chemically dissolve the channel mold prior to circulation of the molten metal composition.
Claims13
An electric channel inductor assembly comprising:
- an outer shell having one or more bushings disposed within the outer shell for containment of an inductor coil and a core assembly in each of the one or more bushings;
- a refractory between the outer shell and the one or more bushings;
- and
- a hollow channel mold conformed to the shape of one or more flow channels, the hollow channel mold formed from a nonmagnetic composition being non-deformable at a refractory heat treatment temperature and chemically dissolvable in a reaction liquid supplied to the hollow interior of the hollow channel mold, the hollow channel mold disposed in the refractory between the outer shell and the one or more bushings.
An electric channel inductor assembly comprising:
- an outer shell having one or more bushings disposed within the outer shell for containment of an inductor coil and a core assembly in each of the one or more bushings;
- a refractory between the outer shell and the one or more bushings;
- and
- a hollow channel mold formed from a nonmagnetic composition that is unmeltable by electric induction when an alternating current is applied to the inductor coil, the hollow channel mold conformed to the shape of one or more flow channels for electromagnetic circulation of an electrically conductive liquid material in the one or more flow channels, the hollow channel mold being disposed in the refractory between the outer shell and the one or more bushings and formed from a composition being non-deformable at a refractory heat treatment temperature;
- an improvement comprising the hollow channel mold being formed from a composition chemically dissolvable in a reaction liquid supplied to the hollow interior of the hollow channel mold subsequent to circulating a heat treatment fluid medium through the hollow interior of the channel mold and prior to the circulation of the electrically conductive liquid material through the one or more flow channels.
An electric channel inductor assembly for an electromagnetic circulation of a molten metal composition, the electric channel inductor comprising:
- an outer shell having one or more bushings disposed within the outer shell for containment of an inductor coil and a core assembly in each of the one or more bushings;
- a refractory between the outer shell and the one or more bushings;
- and
- one or more flow channels disposed between the refractory between the outer shell and the one or more bushings, the one or more flow channels being formed from a hollow channel mold conformed to the shape of the one or more flow channels and formed from a nonmagnetic composition being non-deformable at a refractory heat treatment temperature and chemically dissolved in a reaction liquid supplied to the hollow interior of the hollow channel mold subsequent to a refractory heat treatment of the refractory adjacent to the outer surfaces of the hollow channel mold by circulating a heated fluid medium through the hollow interior of the hollow channel mold disposed in the refractory between the outer shell and the one or more bushings and prior to the electromagnetic circulation of the molten metal composition.
