Simplified Data Input in Electronic Documents

A method of simplifying data input in an electronic document, comprising:

• displaying an electronic document on a computer-implemented display surface, the electronic document having one or more data items;
• receiving an electronic inking input on the electronic document associated with an available application function that may be applied to the one or more data items;
• and,
• interpreting the electronic inking item as an available application function that may be applied to the one or more data items.

A method of simplifying data input in an electronic document, comprising

• displaying an electronic document on a computer-implemented display surface, the electronic document containing one or more data items;
• automatically applying an available application function to the one or more data items;
• and
• displaying in the electronic document a result of the automatic application of the available application function.
