Abstract
A system includes a policy repository configured to store a plurality of plurality of media-centric policies. A media policy decision point receives media session data corresponding to one of the plurality of media sessions; determines a plurality of media-specific and non-media specific attributes, based on the media session data; and evaluates a plurality of media-centric policies to determine a proper subset of the plurality of media-centric policies that apply to the one of the plurality of media sessions. A media policy enforcement point enforces the proper subset of the plurality of media-centric policies to control the one of the plurality of media sessions.
Claims20
A system for use in a network that provides streaming media in a plurality of media sessions between a media source and a corresponding plurality of client devices, the system comprising:
- a policy repository configured to store a plurality of media-centric policies;
- a media policy decision point, coupled to the network and the policy repository, configured to:
- receive media session data corresponding to one of the plurality of media sessions;
- determine a plurality of media-specific and non-media-specific attributes, based on the media session data;
- and
- evaluate a plurality of media-centric policies to determine a proper subset of the plurality of media-centric policies that apply to the one of the plurality of media sessions.
A method for use in a network that provides streaming media in a plurality of media sessions between a media source and a corresponding plurality of client devices, the method comprising:
- receiving media session data corresponding to one of the plurality of media sessions;
- determining a plurality of media-specific and non-media-specific attributes, based on the media session data;
- evaluating a plurality of media-centric policies to determine a proper subset of the plurality of media-centric policies that apply to the one of the plurality of media sessions.
A system for use in a network that provides streaming media in a plurality of media sessions between a media source and a corresponding plurality of client devices, the system comprising:
- a policy repository configured to store a plurality of media-centric policies;
- a media policy enforcement point, coupled to the network and to the policy repository, configured to enforce a proper subset of the plurality of media-centric policies to control one of the plurality of media sessions;
- wherein the proper subset of the plurality of media-centric policies is determined by a media policy decision point based on media session data corresponding to the one of the plurality of media sessions.
