Abstract
Internet streaming from broadcast radio or television stations is described wherein triggers for dynamic content from internal or external systems cause an encoder system to generate command messages, and optionally to synchronize those command messages with any delays associated with the triggering events. Command messages are delivered through a streaming media distribution system to client media players which obtain or present the dynamic content, in association with any desired configuration changes to the appearance of the media player or the method or manner in which the dynamic content is presented.
Claims22
A method to dynamically present a video from a web camera on a client web page having at least one client media player, the combination of software in the client web page and software in the client media player collectively comprising client software, a client media player receiving a media stream from an encoder system having a delay filter, network connectivity, and an encoder, the media stream being transmitted from the encoder system to a media distribution server to which the client media player connects, the media stream further incorporating command messages impressed onto the media stream by the encoder system and received and acted upon by the client software, comprising the steps of:
- a. receiving a media stream by an encoding system, and inserting the received media stream by the encoding system into a delay filter;
- b. directing the output of the delay filter by the encoder system into an encoder when the delay has expired for each quantum of media in the media stream;
- c. encoding the media stream output from the delay filter by the encoder, and outputting the encoded media stream by the encoder to a distribution media server to which a client media player connects;
- d. receiving a trigger message identifying a web camera to be displayed on the client web page, and causing the encoder system to create a command message which will cause the client software to assign a client media player to the web camera if one is not already assigned, to make the area on the web page visible where the video is to be displayed if it is not already visible, and to cause said assigned client media player to play the video from the web camera;
- and
- e. impressing said command message into the encoded media stream by the encoder, said command message being received by the distribution media server and connected client media players, and causing the client software associated with said connected client media players to cause the presentation of the web camera video on the client web page.
A method to dynamically present a video from a web camera on a client web page having at least one client media player, the combination of software in the client web page and software in the client media player collectively comprising client software, a client media player receiving a media stream by from encoder system having network connectivity and an encoder, the media stream being transmitted from the encoder system to a media distribution server to which the client media player connects, the media stream further incorporating command messages impressed onto the media stream by the encoder system and received and acted upon by the client software, comprising the steps of:
- a. receiving a media stream by an encoding system;
- b. encoding the media stream by the encoder, and outputting the encoded media stream by the encoder to a distribution media server to which a client media player connects;
- c. receiving a trigger message identifying a web camera to be displayed on the client web page, and causing the encoder system to create a command message which will cause the client software to assign a client media player to the web camera if one is not already assigned, to make the area on the web page visible where the video is to be displayed if it is not already visible, and to cause said assigned client media player to play the video from the web camera;
- and
- d. impressing said command message into the encoded media stream by the encoder, said command message being received by the distribution media server and connected client media players, and causing the client software associated with said connected client media players to cause the presentation of the web camera video on the client web page.
A non-transitory machine-readable medium containing processor readable code for programming a processor to dynamically present a video from a web camera on a client web page having at least one client media player, the combination of software in the client web page and software in the client media player collectively comprising client software, a client media player receiving a media stream from an encoder system having a delay filter, network connectivity, and an encoder, the media stream being transmitted from the encoder system to a media distribution server to which the client media player connects, the media stream further incorporating command messages impressed onto the media stream by the encoder system and received and acted upon by the client software, comprising:
- a. a routine to receive a media stream by an encoding system, and inserting the received media stream by the encoding system into a delay filter;
- b. a routine to direct the output of the delay filter by the encoder system into an encoder when the delay has expired for each quantum of media in the media stream;
- c. a routine to encode the media stream output from the delay filter by the encoder, and outputting the encoded media stream by the encoder to a distribution media server to which a client media player connects;
- d. a routine to receive a trigger message identifying a web camera to be displayed on the client web page, and causing the encoder system to create a command message which will cause the client software to assign a client media player to the web camera if one is not already assigned, to make the area on the web page visible where the video is to be displayed if it is not already visible, and to cause said assigned client media player to play the video from the web camera;
- and
- e. a routine to impress said command message into the encoded media stream by the encoder, said command message being received by the distribution media server and connected client media players, and causing the client software associated with said connected client media players to cause the presentation of the web camera video on the client web page.
A non-transitory machine-readable medium containing processor readable code for programming a processor to dynamically present a video from a web camera on a client web page having at least one client media player, the combination of software in the client web page and software in the client media player collectively comprising client software, a client media player receiving a media stream by from encoder system having network connectivity and an encoder, the media stream being transmitted from the encoder system to a media distribution server to which the client media player connects, the media stream further incorporating command messages impressed onto the media stream by the encoder system and received and acted upon by the client software, comprising the steps of:
- a. a routine to receive a media stream by an encoding system;
- b. a routine to encode the media stream by the encoder, and output the encoded media stream by the encoder to a distribution media server to which a client media player connects;
- c. a routine to receive a trigger message identifying a web camera to be displayed on the client web page, and causing the encoder system to create a command message which will cause the client software to assign a client media player to the web camera if one is not already assigned, to make the area on the web page visible where the video is to be displayed if it is not already visible, and to cause said assigned client media player to play the video from the web camera;
- and
- d. a routine to impress said command message into the encoded media stream by the encoder, said command message being received by the distribution media server and connected client media players, and causing the client software associated with said connected client media players to cause the presentation of the web camera video on the client web page.
