A method of sharing and managing ownership of and access to digital media works includes initially offering for sale a predetermined number of blocks of a digital media work, for example, a song, each block representing a share of ownership of the song. Access is provided to a user to use the digital media work, for example, to listen to the song, via a link provided after purchasing a block of the song. The selling price of the blocks is updated based on a demand for the digital media work. For example, the selling price can be increased in incremental amounts in proportion to a percentage of the number of blocks sold until the entire initial stash of blocks is sold. Thereafter, blocks can be sold to, and traded between, users in various gaming and other applications that promote social aspects of the method, as well as for profit.
