Abstract
The present application is directed to an image-guided, vacuum assisted, percutaneous, coring, cable driven breast biopsy instrument which may be conveniently mounted to an x-ray machine wherein the biopsy instrument incorporates a rotation knob at the proximal end of the instrument to manually rotate the distal end of the probe, thus allowing the clinician to conveniently position the tissue port next to the tissue to be sampled.

1-19. (canceled)
A biopsy device, comprising:
- (a) a reusable portion;
- (b) a disposable probe portion removably coupled to the reusable portion, wherein the probe portion comprises a needle extending distally from the probe portion;
- (c) a cutter movable with respect to an opening in the needle to sever a tissue sample received in the opening in the needle;
- (d) a firing assembly operable to distally advance the needle of the probe portion;
- (e) a first fluid line communicating with the probe portion;
- (f) a second fluid line communicating with the probe portion;
- (g) a strainer operatively associated with the probe portion, the strainer operable to permit fluid to pass through the strainer, and wherein the strainer is operable to prevent a tissue sample from passing through the strainer;
- (h) a vacuum source, wherein the vacuum source is operable to communicate vacuum through the strainer.

A biopsy device, comprising:
- (a) a body;
- (b) a needle extending distally from the body, the needle having a tissue receiving opening;
- (c) a cutter moveable relative to the tissue receiving opening in the needle;
- (d) a firing assembly operable to fire the needle into tissue;
- (e) a strainer operable to permit fluid to pass through the strainer, and the strainer operable to prevent a tissue sample from passing through the strainer;
- (f) a vacuum source, wherein the vacuum source is operable to provide vacuum to the tissue receiving opening through the strainer;
- and
- (g) first and second spaced apart seals associated with the body.
5 more elements
A biopsy device, comprising:
- (a) a needle, the needle having a needle axis and a tissue receiving opening;
- (b) a cutter moveable relative to the tissue receiving opening in the needle;
- (c) a firing assembly operable to fire the needle into tissue;
- (d) a strainer operable to permit fluid to pass through the strainer, and the strainer operable to prevent a tissue sample from passing through the strainer;
- (e) a vacuum source, wherein the vacuum source is operable to provide vacuum to the tissue receiving opening;
- and
- (f) first and second spaced apart seals, wherein each of the first and second spaced apart seals encircle the needle axis.
