Abstract
Communication network techniques may use geographic information to reduce a number of neighboring cell measurements to be taken. Such techniques may be useful, for example, in cell reselection.
Claims72
A wireless communication method, comprising:
- determining, at a terminal in a serving cell of a wireless communication network, geographic information relating to one or more neighboring wireless network cells included in a neighboring cell list obtained from the wireless communication network;
- and
- performing measurements on a subset of the neighboring cell list, wherein the subset is determined based on the geographic information.
An apparatus, comprising:
- means for determining geographic information relating to one or more neighboring wireless network cells included in a neighboring cell list obtained from the wireless communication network;
- and
- means for performing measurements on a subset of the reduced neighboring cell list, wherein the subset is determined based on the geographic information.
A wireless communication terminal, comprising:
- transmitter circuitry;
- receiver circuitry;
- one or more antennas, coupled to the transmitter circuitry, the receiver circuitry, or both;
- one or more processors coupled to the transmitter circuitry, the receiver circuitry, or both;
- and
- one or more storage media coupled to the one or more processors and containing executable code configured to cause the implementation of operations including:
- determining geographic information relating to one or more neighboring wireless network cells included in a neighboring cell list obtained from a wireless communication network;
- and
- performing measurements on a subset of the neighboring cell list, wherein the subset is determined based on the geographic information.

- determining, at a terminal of a wireless communication network, geographic information relating to one or more neighboring wireless network cells included in a neighboring cell list obtained from the wireless communication network;

A method of cell reselection by a terminal in a wireless communication network, the method comprising:
- performing, by the terminal, measurements of multiple cells representing respective groups of cells formed into respective neighborhoods;
- selecting, by the terminal, one or more of the multiple cells representing respective groups of cells as a set of one or more strongest representative cells;
- performing further measurements, by the terminal, of the respective groups of cells represented by the one or more strongest representative cells;
- and
- selecting, by the terminal, a cell for reselection based on the measurements and the further measurements.
