Abstract
In general, one aspect of the subject matter described herein can be embodied in methods that include the actions of: for each of a plurality of devices, perceiving, in relation to the device, one or more proximate devices, generating a record of the perception of the one or more proximate devices, receiving, from at least one of the one or more proximate devices, one or more records of respective prior perceptions of one or more devices in relation to the at least one of the one or more proximate devices, and providing, to another device that is not among the one or more proximate devices, (a) the record of the perception of the one or more proximate devices and (b) the one or more records of respective prior perceptions.

A computer-implemented method for communicating between and among a plurality of devices on a node-to-node basis and without reliance on an established network, wherein the devices include (1) a set of proximate devices comprising devices that are proximate to a first device, and (2) remote devices that are not proximate to the first device yet which include at least one device that is proximate to at least one device in the set of proximate devices, the method comprising:
- perceiving, by the first device, one or more proximate devices in the set of proximate devices;
- generating, by the first device, a record identifying the perceived proximate devices (“perception record” or “PR”);
- receiving, at the first device, a perception record generated by each perceived proximate device, each received perception record (“RPR”) identifying any remote devices, that is, devices which are not proximate to the first device;
- defining, by the first device, a node-to-node based communication matrix among the devices using (a) the PR and (b) one or more of the RPRs, wherein the communication matrix identifies indirect hops of connectivity between the first device and the remote devices via at least one of the perceived proximate devices;
- and
- transmitting, by the first device based on the communication matrix, at least one message from the first device to at least one of the remote devices across at least one of the perceived proximate devices by discrete node-to-node communications.
- perceiving, by the first device, one or more proximate devices in the set of proximate devices;
- generating, by the first device, a record of the perceived proximate devices (“perception record” or “PR”);
- defining, by the first device, a node-to-node based communication matrix among the first device and the perceived proximate devices using the PR, wherein the communication matrix identifies direct hops of connectivity between the first device and the perceived proximate devices;
- receiving, at the first device, a perception record generated by each perceived proximate device, each received perception record (“RPR”) identifying any remote devices, that is, devices which are not proximate to the first device;
- refining, by the first device, the node-to-node based communication matrix among the devices using one or more of the RPRs, wherein the refined communication matrix identifies indirect hops of connectivity between the first device and the remote devices via at least one of the perceived proximate devices;
- and
- transmitting, by the first device based on the communication matrix, at least one message from the first device to at least one of the remote devices across at least one of the perceived proximate devices by discrete node-to-node communications.
A system comprising:
- a computer-readable storage medium storing software modules including instructions in the form of code;
- one or more processors configured by executing the software modules therein to perform operations comprising:
- perceive the one or more proximate devices in the set of proximate devices;
- generate a record of the perceived proximate devices (“perception record” or “PR”);
- define a node-to-node based communication matrix among the first device and the perceived proximate devices using the PR, wherein the communication matrix identifies direct hops of connectivity between the first device and the perceived proximate devices;
- receive a perception record generated by each perceived proximate device, each received perception record (“RPR”) identifying any remote devices, that is, devices which are not proximate to the first device;
- refine the node-to-node based communication matrix among the devices using one or more of the RPRs, wherein the refined communication matrix identifies indirect hops of connectivity between the first device and the remote devices via at least one of the perceived proximate devices;
- and
- transmit at least one message from the first device to at least one of the remote devices across at least one of the perceived proximate devices by discrete node-to-node communications.
